It's time to get excited about fabrics this week - I have some real beauties to show you in this month's fabric haul. In fact I love them so much I've sewn two of them up into gorgeous dresses already with a third washed and ready to cut out.
Hi and welcome to the Sew Essential vlog. This week I'm bringing you a bunch of gorgeous drool worthy fabrics. As always I'll be pairing them with sewing patterns I think would work well and all of the patterns and fabrics are available on our site, we've included the links below.
Hermione Fabric in Marigold
First up our latest John Kaldor Hermione fabric in this vibrant marigold colour. Hermione is a polyester fabric with great drape and a soft handle.
I previously used a different print in the Hermione to make a jumpsuit and it worked really well so I thought I'd go for another jumpsuit in this one.
I chose Simplicity 8178. It has shoulder panels with gathers, which are nice and flattering on the bust. A cross over front bodice, elasticated waist - easy for fitting and good for comfort - and relatively loose fitting trousers.
Floral Print Woven Fabric
As soon as I saw this fabric I knew we had to stock it. It is a Lady McElroy cotton lawn - fantastic quality with a nice amount of movement and drape. More importantly though, just look at those colours and that print!
I decided it was the perfect match for the Tilly and the Buttons Seren dress, which I've been wanting to make since its release late last summer.
I vlogged about the dress last week, but here it is on the mannequin. I'm so pleased with it, we just need some nice weather so I can wear it now!
Spots Print Woven Fabric
This pretty little number is 100% viscose so it's lovely and lightweight, breathable and drapey. In other words perfect for summer.
I can think of lots of things I would like to make with these pretty polka dots, but the one I've chosen for this video is the Seoul Blossom Blouse by Sew to Grow.
It has some interesting darts on the front, cute ties on the sleeves and a Vneck, which is quite hard to find on sewing patterns in my experience. I think it would look perfect made up in this lime green polka dot fabric paired with your favourite jeans.
Spots Print Jersey Fabric
More polka dots, which I'm seeing everywhere in my favourite High Street stores right now, so bang on trend.
I abolutely love this true classic - navy blue with a white polka dot.
Again there are so many things I would like to make with this fabric, but my personal choice is Burda 6344. It is a lovely wrap over sundress pattern with a waist tie available as knee length or maxi. There are also cute twisty straps and the neckline almost looks like a sweetheart.
Floral Print Woven Fabric
Finally I have another Lady McElroy cotton lawn and was immediately drawn to the beautiful print. It's like an English country garden on a fabric. I love the midnight blue backdrop, it makes me think of gardens at night time and that fabulous smell you get in the summer.
I'm making the Sew Over It Penny dress in this fabric and can't wait to wear it.
I hope you've enjoyed my fabric picks this month and I'll look forward to seeing you next time.
Have fun sewing!
