What Are Patterned Woven Fabrics and What Are They Used For?
Patterned woven fabrics have prints and designs on them such as florals, abstract prints, spots, stripes, geometric prints and more. We pride ourselves on sourcing a fun range of colourful patterned woven fabrics to help your sewing dreams come to life.
Woven fabrics are created by weaving two threads or yarns at right angles meaning they are a stable fabric and don’t have any stretch. Some of our patterned woven fabrics might be stretch woven fabrics and have a little bit of elasticity, however, they shouldn't be confused with stretch or knit fabrics, which are usually much stretchier. Consult your sewing pattern for recommended fabrics and, of course, don’t hesitate to ask us if you need any help at all.
You can use patterned woven fabrics to create a range of garments, accessories and homewares. If your sewing project requires some structure you might want to work with a heavier weight patterned woven fabric such as needlecord, denim, cotton twill or cotton sateen. If you are sewing something that requires drape and movement you might want to choose a lighter weight patterned woven fabric such as viscose, crepe de chine, chiffon or cotton lawn.
