At its heart is the BERNINA Hook, which produces beautifully consistent stitches at speeds of up to 900 stitches per minute. Its front-loading Jumbo Bobbin holds up to 70% more thread than a standard bobbin, so you can spend more time sewing and less time stopping to rewind.
The BERNINA 480 gives you an impressive 994 stitch patterns, including 250 decorative stitches, 27 quilting stitches, 21 cross stitches, 29 utility stitches and five sewing alphabets. With a maximum stitch width of 9mm, it is particularly well suited to decorative stitching and gives you plenty of scope to personalise your projects.
A centrally positioned 4.3-inch colour touchscreen makes selecting and editing stitches quick and straightforward, while the multifunction knobs allow precise adjustments to stitch width and length. On-screen help, a Sewing Tutorial and the Creative Sewing Consultant are also there when you need a little extra guidance.
With 7 inches of space to the right of the needle, the BERNINA 480 gives you plenty of room for garments, quilts and larger sewing projects. Eight LED sewing lights illuminate the work area clearly, while the included slide-on extension table provides additional support when working with larger pieces of fabric.
The BERNINA Free Hand System (FHS) lets you raise and lower the presser foot using the knee lifter, leaving both hands free to guide your fabric. Adjustable presser foot pressure makes it easier to achieve excellent results on everything from delicate fabrics to thicker layers, and BERNINA Adaptive Thread Tension helps maintain beautifully balanced stitching.
Useful automatic features make everyday sewing quicker and easier. The automatic thread cutter trims the upper and lower threads for you, while needle stop up/down, Start/Stop sewing, adjustable sewing speed, a semi-automatic needle threader and automatic buttonholes all help to streamline your sewing.
The BERNINA 480 is also BSR compatible, allowing you to use the optional BERNINA Stitch Regulator for beautifully consistent stitch lengths when free-motion quilting.
