The BERNINA 500 is a dedicated embroidery machine designed for sewists who want precision, generous embroidery space and powerful creative features without needing a combined sewing and embroidery machine. With its intuitive touchscreen, large embroidery area and advanced positioning tools, it makes everything from personalised garments to larger decorative projects easy to create with confidence.
The redesigned Embroidery Module M with Smart Drive Technology (SDT) gives you smoother, quieter movement with less vibration and excellent stitch quality. The machine offers an embroidery area of up to 400 x 150mm, while the extended freearm provides 8.5 inches of space to the right of the needle for comfortably handling larger projects.
With 275 built-in embroidery designs and 8 embroidery alphabets, there is plenty to get started with straight away. Designs can be edited directly on the 4.3-inch colour touchscreen, including resizing, rotating, mirroring, combining, grouping and ungrouping elements, so you can personalise your embroidery without needing to move back and forth to a computer.
Pinpoint Placement makes positioning designs accurately much simpler. Simply select two points on your design and match them to markings on the hooped fabric, making it easier to align embroidery exactly where you want it – particularly useful when working with garment details, borders or pre-cut pieces.
The BERNINA 500 also includes a range of time-saving automatic features. The automatic thread cutter cuts the upper and lower threads and raises the needle, while Thread Away Mode pulls thread tails to the underside of your work for a cleaner finish on top. Programmable jump stitch cutting and Invisible Secure further reduce manual trimming and help keep embroidery looking neat and professional.
At the heart of the machine is the BERNINA Hook, delivering consistent, precise embroidery at speeds of up to 1,000 stitches per minute. The front-loading Jumbo Bobbin holds up to 70% more thread than a standard bobbin, helping you embroider for longer with fewer interruptions.
The BERNINA 500 also supports a wide range of embroidery file formats including EXP, DST, PES, PEC, JEF, SEW, PCS and XXX, with USB connectivity for importing designs and updates. Upper and lower thread sensors, 12 LED lights and the built-in Embroidery Consultant add further convenience while you work.
