The BERNINA 540 is a powerful sewing, quilting and embroidery-capable machine designed for sewists who want plenty of creative freedom without stepping up to the largest machines in the range. With a generous 8.5-inch workspace, 9mm stitch width, intuitive touchscreen controls and a huge choice of stitches, it is equally at home with dressmaking, quilting, home furnishings and decorative sewing.
At the heart of the machine is the BERNINA Hook, delivering beautifully precise, consistent stitches at speeds of up to 1,000 stitches per minute. The front-loading Jumbo Bobbin gives you a much larger thread capacity than a standard bobbin, so you can spend more time sewing and less time stopping to rewind.
The BERNINA 540 includes an impressive 1,048 stitch patterns, including 300 decorative stitches, 43 quilting stitches, 30 practical stitches, 14 buttonholes and eyelets, and five sewing alphabets. With a maximum stitch width of 9mm, you can create bold decorative stitching as well as beautifully precise everyday seams.
A centrally positioned 4.3-inch colour touchscreen makes selecting and adjusting stitches simple, while the multifunction knobs give you quick, precise control over stitch width and length. The built-in Sewing Consultant can also suggest suitable settings, helping you get great results across a wide range of fabrics and techniques.
With 8.5 inches of space to the right of the needle, there is plenty of room for larger garments, quilts and home furnishing projects. Adjustable presser foot pressure makes it easier to achieve smooth feeding on everything from fine fabrics and jersey to bulky layers, while Adaptive Thread Tension helps maintain beautifully balanced stitches.
The BERNINA Free Hand System (FHS) allows you to raise and lower the presser foot with the knee lifter, leaving both hands free to guide your fabric. Useful automatic features include an automatic thread cutter, needle stop up/down, Start/Stop sewing, adjustable sewing speed and a semi-automatic needle threader, helping to make everyday sewing faster and more comfortable.
The BERNINA 540 is also BSR compatible, so you can add the optional BERNINA Stitch Regulator for consistent stitch lengths during free-motion quilting.
If you want to explore machine embroidery too, the BERNINA 540 can be upgraded with the optional Embroidery Module M with Smart Drive Technology (SDT). With the module fitted, the machine supports an embroidery area of up to 400 x 150mm and includes 50 built-in embroidery designs and four embroidery alphabets.
