The BERNINA 590 is the top model in the BERNINA 5 Series, designed for sewists and quilters who want power, precision and a generous range of advanced features in a compact machine. With BERNINA Dual Feed, the BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR) included as standard, a large 8.5-inch workspace and an impressive selection of stitches, it is exceptionally well equipped for dressmaking, quilting, home furnishings and creative sewing.
The integrated BERNINA Dual Feed feeds fabric evenly from above and below, making it particularly useful when sewing multiple layers, slippery fabrics and fine materials. Combined with the machine’s substantial piercing power, it gives you excellent control across a wide variety of projects and fabrics.
For free-motion quilting, the BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR) is included as standard. The BSR helps maintain consistent stitch lengths as you move the fabric freely beneath the needle and can be used with both straight stitch and zigzag, making it a valuable tool for free-motion quilting and thread painting.
With 8.5 inches of space to the right of the needle, the BERNINA 590 provides plenty of room for quilts, larger garments and home furnishing projects. The automatic presser foot lift and Pivot/Hover function make it easier to turn and reposition your work while keeping the needle exactly where you need it.
There are 1,774 built-in stitch patterns, including 499 decorative stitches, 60 quilting stitches, 38 utility stitches, 18 buttonholes and eyelets, 40 cross stitches and nine sewing alphabets. A maximum stitch width of 9mm gives you plenty of creative freedom for decorative stitching as well as precise everyday sewing.
The centrally positioned 4.3-inch colour touchscreen makes selecting and editing stitches straightforward, while the multifunction knobs give you quick, precise control over stitch settings. The built-in Sewing Consultant and on-screen help provide useful guidance as you work.
At the heart of the machine is the BERNINA Hook, delivering smooth, precise sewing at speeds of up to 1,000 stitches per minute. Its front-loading Jumbo Bobbin holds up to 70% more thread than a standard bobbin, reducing interruptions when working on longer seams or larger projects.
Automatic features help keep your sewing flowing smoothly. The automatic thread cutter trims the upper and lower threads at the touch of a button, while the automatic presser foot lift, needle stop up/down, Start/Stop function and adjustable sewing speed make everyday sewing quicker and more comfortable.
This version of the BERNINA 590 is supplied without the embroidery module, making it ideal if your focus is sewing and quilting. The machine itself is embroidery capable, so the compatible Embroidery Module M can be purchased separately at a later date if you decide you would like to add machine embroidery.
