The BERNINA 590 with Embroidery Module is the top model in the BERNINA 5 Series, combining advanced sewing and quilting features with powerful embroidery capability. With BERNINA Dual Feed, the BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR) included as standard, a generous 8.5-inch workspace and the Embroidery Module M with Smart Drive Technology included, it is an exceptionally versatile machine for dressmaking, quilting, decorative sewing and machine embroidery.
The integrated BERNINA Dual Feed feeds fabric evenly from above and below, making it particularly useful for multiple layers, slippery fabrics and fine materials. Combined with excellent piercing power and precise stitch formation, it gives you superb control across a wide variety of fabrics and projects.
For free-motion quilting, the BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR) is included as standard. It helps maintain consistent stitch lengths as you move the fabric freely beneath the needle and can be used with both straight stitch and zigzag, making it ideal for free-motion quilting and thread painting.
With 8.5 inches of space to the right of the needle, the BERNINA 590 provides plenty of room for quilts, larger garments and home furnishing projects. The automatic presser foot lift and Pivot/Hover function make it easier to turn and reposition your work while keeping the needle exactly where you need it.
There are 1,774 built-in stitch patterns, including 499 decorative stitches, 60 quilting stitches, 38 utility stitches, 18 buttonholes and eyelets, 40 cross stitches and nine sewing alphabets. A maximum stitch width of 9mm gives you plenty of creative freedom for decorative stitching as well as precise everyday sewing.
The centrally positioned 4.3-inch colour touchscreen makes selecting and editing stitches straightforward, while the multifunction knobs give you quick, precise control over your settings. The built-in Sewing Consultant and on-screen help provide useful guidance while you work.
At the heart of the machine is the BERNINA Hook, delivering smooth, precise sewing at speeds of up to 1,000 stitches per minute. Its front-loading Jumbo Bobbin holds up to 70% more thread than a standard bobbin, helping reduce interruptions during longer sewing and embroidery projects.
For embroidery, the included Embroidery Module M with Smart Drive Technology (SDT) provides smooth, quiet movement with reduced vibration and an embroidery area of up to 400 x 150mm. The BERNINA 590 includes 275 built-in embroidery designs and 8 embroidery alphabets, giving you plenty of creative options straight away.
Pinpoint Placement makes accurate positioning much easier, while on-screen editing lets you position, mirror, rotate, resize and combine designs directly on the touchscreen. You can also group and ungroup designs, use the Colour Wheel, create endless embroidery layouts and import additional designs via USB.
Useful embroidery features such as Thread Away Mode, programmable jump stitch cutting, Smart Secure, Invisible Secure and colour resequencing help reduce manual trimming and produce clean, professional-looking results. The machine supports EXP, DST, PES, PEC, JEF, SEW, PCS and XXX embroidery file formats.
