The BERNINA 990 is BERNINA’s flagship sewing, quilting and embroidery machine, created for sewists who want exceptional space, precision and creative control. With an enormous 14-inch workspace to the right of the needle, a 10.1-inch colour touchscreen, advanced positioning technology and a large embroidery area, it is designed for ambitious quilting, garment sewing and embroidery projects.
The machine uses BERNINA stitchprecision² technology for smooth, quiet and accurate stitching, with speeds of up to 1,200 stitches per minute. The BERNINA Hook and front-loading Jumbo Bobbin provide excellent stitch formation and up to 70% more thread capacity than a standard bobbin, helping reduce interruptions during longer projects.
For quilting, the BERNINA 990 features the BERNINA Integrated Stitch Regulator (BISR), giving you consistent stitch lengths during free-motion quilting without relying on a dedicated conventional BSR setup. It also supports BSR Foot #42, adjustable minimum stitching speed and stitch-length adjustment in stitches per inch, giving you excellent control over free-motion work.
The large 10.1-inch touchscreen provides clear access to stitches, embroidery designs and machine settings, while the built-in camera and BERNINA Pinpoint Laser help you position stitching and embroidery with outstanding accuracy. The machine also features automatic needle threading, stitch plate recognition, BERNINA Dual Feed, WiFi connectivity and 90 LED lights for excellent visibility across the large working area.
There are 2,927 built-in sewing stitch patterns, including 957 decorative stitches, 124 quilting stitches, 40 practical stitches, 272 sideways-motion stitches and 16 alphabets plus two monogram sets. Creative functions such as Stitch Designer, Jumbo Stitch, sideways motion, tapering, Undo/Redo and extensive stitch editing give you enormous scope to personalise your sewing.
For embroidery, the BERNINA 990 includes the Embroidery Module XL with Smart Drive Technology (SDT) and offers an exceptionally large 410 x 305mm embroidery area. The included Giant Hoop allows you to embroider designs up to 16.1 x 12 inches, making it possible to stitch large motifs and even full 12-inch quilt blocks in a single hooping.
The built-in BERNINA Placement Scanner can display the fabric held in the embroidery hoop directly on the screen, helping you visualise design placement before stitching. Together with the machine’s camera, Pinpoint Placement and 2-Point and 4-Point positioning tools, it makes aligning embroidery with prints, seams and existing design elements much easier.
The BERNINA 990 includes 879 built-in embroidery designs, 24 embroidery alphabets and 206 customisable quilt designs. On-screen editing lets you resize, rotate, align, distribute, group and combine designs, while Shape Designer, WordArt, multi-line lettering, colour tools and Virtual Positioning give you extensive creative control without needing to move constantly between the machine and a computer.
WiFi connectivity allows compatible designs to be transferred between the machine and BERNINA Embroidery Software 9, while the BERNINA Stitchout App lets you monitor embroidery progress remotely. USB connectivity is also available for importing and exporting designs.
