The BERNINA L-450 Overlocker is a smooth, precise and easy-to-use machine designed to give your sewing a professional finish. It cuts, sews and finishes seams in one step, making it ideal for dressmaking, stretch fabrics, activewear, jersey and beautifully neat seam finishing.
One of its standout features is BERNINA’s patented Micro Thread Control (mtc). This lets you fine-tune the amount of thread wrapping around the fabric edge with a simple adjustment, helping you achieve beautifully balanced seams without constantly changing the thread tensions. It is particularly useful when switching between different fabrics, cutting widths and stitch types.
The L-450 offers 16 stitch variations, including 4-thread overlock, 3-thread overlock, super-stretch, flatlock, rolled hem, picot stitch and a range of 2-thread finishes. With an adjustable overlock seam width of 3–9mm and stitch length from 0.8–4mm, there is plenty of flexibility for different fabrics and techniques.
Threading is made straightforward with a colour-coded lay-in threading system, lower looper threader and handwheel position indicator. Thread tension is automatically released when the presser foot is raised, helping make rethreading and adjustments easier.
The adjustable differential feed helps prevent wavy seams on stretch fabrics and puckering on lightweight fabrics, and can also be used deliberately to create gathering effects. Both stitch length and differential feed can be adjusted while you sew, so it is easy to fine-tune the finish as you work.
The BERNINA L-450 sews at speeds of up to 1,200 stitches per minute, while two bright LED lights illuminate both the needle and looper area. Five-step presser foot pressure adjustment gives you extra control over different fabric weights, and the built-in rolled hem lever makes changing from overlocking to rolled hemming quick and straightforward.
Practical details include integrated accessory storage inside the looper cover and a fitted cut-offs bin to catch trimmed fabric as you sew. The bin can also be used to store the foot control when the machine is not in use, helping keep your sewing space neat and organised.
