The BERNINA L 850 Overlocker is a premium air-threading overlocker designed for sewists who want speed, precision and beautifully professional seam finishes. With its One-Step BERNINA Air Threader, built-in needle threader, Micro Thread Control and generous workspace, it makes overlocking quicker and easier while still giving you excellent control over every stitch.
The One-Step BERNINA Air Threader makes threading the loopers incredibly straightforward. Simply position the threads in the threading ports and press the foot control to send them through the machine using air. The built-in needle threader takes care of the needles too, while colour-coded one-path threading makes it easy to see exactly where each thread needs to go.
The L 850 offers 18 stitch variations, including 4-thread overlock, wide and narrow 3-thread overlock, super-stretch, flatlock, narrow seam, rolled hem, picot stitch and a choice of 2-thread finishes. With an adjustable stitch width of 3–9mm, it gives you plenty of flexibility for fine fabrics, jersey, activewear, dressmaking and decorative overlocking.
BERNINA’s Micro Thread Control (mtc) lets you fine-tune the amount of looper thread wrapping around the fabric edge with a simple adjustment. Combined with adjustable stitch length, cutting width, differential feed and thread tension, it gives you excellent control over stitch formation and makes it easier to achieve smooth, beautifully balanced seams across different fabric types.
A powerful DC motor delivers speeds of up to 1,500 stitches per minute, while still giving you the control to sew slowly or stitch by stitch when precision is important. The automatic needle stop brings the needle to the correct position when you stop sewing, and the BERNINA foot control lets you move the needle up or down without taking your hands away from your work.
The BERNINA Free Hand System (FHS) lets you raise and lower the presser foot using the included knee lifter, leaving both hands free to position and guide your fabric. The swing-out presser foot also provides easy access to the needles, making threading and needle changes more convenient.
With 143mm of space to the right of the needle and a workspace height of 86mm, the L 850 gives you significantly more room than a traditional overlocker. The included slide-on extension table provides additional support for larger or heavier projects, while the free arm makes it easier to work on sleeves, cuffs and other tubular pieces.
The adjustable differential feed helps prevent wavy seams on stretch fabrics and puckering on lightweight fabrics, while also allowing you to deliberately create gathers. Stitch length, differential feed, thread tension and cutting width can all be adjusted while you sew, making it easy to fine-tune your results as you work.
Practical features include six-step presser foot pressure adjustment, an integrated rolled hem lever, easy knife engagement and disengagement, bright LED lighting, built-in accessory storage and a cut-offs bin to keep your sewing area tidy.
