The BERNINA L 860 Overlocker combines fast, precise overlocking with an intuitive colour touchscreen and exceptionally easy air threading. Designed for dressmaking, jersey, activewear, lingerie and creative overlocking, it gives you all the control of a premium overlocker while helping make setup and stitch selection much more straightforward.
The One-Step BERNINA Air Threader makes threading the loopers quick and easy. Simply position the threads at the threading ports and use the foot control to send them through the machine automatically. The built-in needle threader takes care of the needles too, while colour-coded one-path threading helps make setup clear and simple.
The large 4.3-inch colour touchscreen is one of the features that really sets the L 860 apart. Choose from Guided Mode for extra help and step-by-step support, or Expert Mode when you want direct access to your settings. Built-in tutorials, animations, the Creative Sewing Consultant and Stitch Optimizer are all there to help you achieve the finish you want.
The L 860 offers 18 stitch variations, including 4-thread overlock, wide and narrow 3-thread overlock, super-stretch, flatlock, narrow seam, rolled hem, picot stitch and a selection of 2-thread finishes. With stitch widths from 3–9mm and stitch lengths from 0.8–4.5mm, there is plenty of flexibility for different fabrics and techniques.
BERNINA’s Micro Thread Control (mtc) lets you fine-tune the amount of looper thread wrapping around the fabric edge with a simple adjustment. Stitch length, differential feed, cutting width and thread tension can also be adjusted while you sew, giving you excellent control over stitch formation and making it easier to achieve neat, balanced seams.
The L 860 can even remember your favourite settings. Up to 100 personalised stitches can be saved in the machine’s Personal Memory, making it easy to return to settings you have perfected for particular fabrics, threads or techniques.
A powerful DC motor delivers smooth, quiet sewing at speeds of up to 1,500 stitches per minute, while still giving you excellent control at slower speeds. You can sew as slowly as 250 stitches per minute or even stitch by stitch when you need maximum precision.
The BERNINA Free Hand System (FHS) lets you raise and lower the presser foot using the knee lifter while keeping both hands on your project. The swing-out presser foot provides easy access to the needles, while programmable needle stop up/down and control from the BERNINA foot control make detailed sewing more comfortable.
With 143mm of space to the right of the needle and 86mm of workspace height, the L 860 gives you considerably more room than a traditional overlocker. The included slide-on extension table provides even more support for larger projects, while the free arm makes it easier to sew sleeves, cuffs and other tubular pieces.
