The BERNINA L 890 Overlocker and Coverstitch Machine combines overlocking, coverstitching and chainstitching in one premium machine, giving you exceptional flexibility for dressmaking, jersey, activewear, lingerie and creative sewing. With air threading, a large colour touchscreen and 27 stitch variations, it is designed to make professional garment finishing easier, faster and more intuitive.
The L 890 gives you three machines in one, with overlock stitches, coverstitches and chainstitches, plus 4-thread and 5-thread combination stitches. This means you can finish raw edges, create stretch seams, sew professional-looking hems and produce strong combination seams without needing separate overlocker and coverstitch machines.
The One-Step BERNINA Air Threader makes threading the loopers quick and straightforward. Simply position the looper threads and use the foot control to send them through the machine with air. Colour-coded one-path threading also makes it easier to switch between overlock, coverstitch and combination stitches.
A large 4.3-inch colour touchscreen guides you through stitch selection and machine setup. Choose Guided Mode for step-by-step assistance or Expert Mode for direct access to your settings. Built-in tutorials and animations, the Creative Sewing Consultant and Stitch Optimiser provide extra help whenever you need it.
The L 890 offers 27 stitch variations, including 2-, 3- and 4-thread overlock stitches, rolled hems, flatlock, 4-thread and 3-thread coverstitches, 2-thread chainstitch and combination stitches. Overlock stitch widths range from 3–9mm, coverstitches can be sewn at 3mm or 6mm, and combination stitches range from 7–11mm.
BERNINA’s Micro Thread Control (mtc) makes it easy to fine-tune the amount of looper thread wrapping around the fabric edge. Stitch length, thread tension, differential feed and cutting width can also be adjusted while you sew, giving you excellent control over the finish on everything from fine woven fabrics to highly stretchy jersey.
Your favourite settings can be saved in the machine’s Personal Memory, with space for up to 100 individual stitches. This is particularly useful when you regularly return to the same fabrics, threads or techniques and want to recreate your preferred settings quickly.
A powerful DC motor provides smooth, precise sewing at speeds from 250 up to 1,350 stitches per minute. You can also sew stitch by stitch when maximum control is needed, while programmable needle stop up/down and the BERNINA foot control make detailed sewing easier.
The BERNINA Free Hand System (FHS) lets you raise and lower the presser foot using the knee lifter while keeping both hands on your project. The swing-out presser foot gives you easier access around the needles, while the two-step presser foot lift with front-foot-lift provides extra clearance when positioning fabric.
With 143mm of space to the right of the needle and 86mm of workspace height, the L 890 offers plenty of room for larger garments and projects. The included slide-on extension table gives you even more support, while the free arm makes sewing sleeves, cuffs and other tubular pieces much easier.
