Sew a polo dress or top with the Carly sewing pattern!
Carly is a polo style knit Dress & Top pattern that will slot right into your everyday wardrobe. It features a classic polo collar with a collar stand and a button placket, all interfaced for stability. You can add buttonholes and buttons, press fasteners or just omit all closures and wear it open for a relaxed look.
For an extra special touch, the instructions will show you how to enclose the raw edges of the collar section with woven bias binding. This gives a beautiful finish and it’s a great opportunity to add a pop of colour and make use of some woven scraps. You can take it a step further by also binding the edges of the placket on the inside.
Make Carly as a versatile hip-length Top or a contemporary midi Dress. A shaped seam at the centre back will help you get a really nice fit that skims the body without being too tight. The Carly Dress also includes a stylish split at the hem for ease of movement.
Both versions can be made with a long sleeve, perfect for the colder months, or a short sleeve with a wide cuff.
We recommend medium weight knit fabrics with good recovery for this pattern, such as cotton jersey or rib jersey. Depending on the fabric you use, Carly can look sporty, retro or effortlessly sophisticated. You can also have fun with colour-blocking by using a contrast fabric for the collar, stand, placket and cuffs to really show off these details!
