What are Twin Sewing Machine Needles used for?

With a twin needle, you can sew two parallel lines of the same stitch with two different threads. You can create a professional-looking hems, mimicking the look of a coverstitch machine. They can also be used to sew delicate pin tucks on blouses, dresses, or bed linens. Twin needles are available with different spacing between the needles allowing you to choose the type of effect you wish to achieve.

Most sewing machines are compatible with twin needles. You've likely already got an extra spool pin that fits in the top of your machine - just check the accessory pack that was included with your machine. Simply pop that in and add an extra spool of thread to the top of your machine. Now thread your machine with both threads, one thread going to the left needle and the other to the right. Both upper threads should have the same thickness and quality.

Important information: Please refer to your sewing machine manual as every machine is different and not doing so may risk damage to your machine. Don't use your sewing machines needle threader with the twin needle and make sure your needle is set to the centre position on a straight stitch otherwise one of the needles may crash into the needle plate! You may be able to sew other stitches but again, please refer to your sewing machine.
