Causeway Bomber Itch to Stitch sewing pattern.

The Causeway is a bomber jacket that can be made using a variety of fabrics from lightweight nylon to mid-weight embroidered cotton, so you can select one that matches your personal style. The timeless, casual bomber style is traditionally a short jacket with a ribbed collar and waistband as well as matching cuffs.  The Causeway adds a touch of femininity with front princess seams that also give you a great fit in the bust. The optional invisibly zipped pockets are also embedded in the princess seams for a streamlined look. And you have the option to make the jacket reversible!

Recommended fabrics

Fabric A This is for the primary side of the jacket. The ideal fabric is lightweight to medium weight woven fabric without stretch. Nylon, cotton, rayon twill, crepe are good choices. Lightweight to medium weight woven fabric with a little stretch or a stable knit fabric such as a lightweight fleece is also acceptable but it will result in a more relaxed garment.

Fabric B This is for the reverse side of the jacket. You can use similar fabric as Fabric A. If you choose to not make the jacket reversible, Fabric B should be a lining fabric such as Bemberg lining, lawn, batiste, lightweight woven fabric, silk, satin or other polyester linings.

Fabric C Ribbing The ideal fabric is ribbing fabric. Pre-made ribbing cuff can be used although it must be at least 7″ (18 cm) in length and you will have to piece the cuffs together to accommodate the width. Stable interlock fabric with good recovery is also acceptable.

Lining This lining fabric is used for the pocket bags. Use a lightweight woven fabric such as Bemberg lining, lawn, batiste or other polyester lining are good choices.

Interfacing Use lightweight woven fusible interfacing to cut the 1″ x 1″(2.5 x 2.5 cm) and 1″ (2.5 cm) wide by 21″ (54 cm).

Sizing

  • Includes sizes 00 to 40
  • Sizes 00-20 include custom cup sizes for A, B, C, D and DD cups
  • Sizes 16-40 include custom cup sizes for B, C, D and DD cups

When selecting an Itch to Stitch pattern with cup options, the first step is to work out your cup size. To do this, measure around your high bust and then around the fullest part of your bust. Subtract the high bust measurement from the full bust measurement and round the difference:

  • 1 inch (2.5cm) = A cup
  • 2 inches (5cm) = B cup
  • 3 inches (7.5cm) = C cup
  • 4 inches (10cm) = D cup
  • 5 inches (12.5cm) = DD cup

Once you've identified your cup size, simply check the size chart in the image gallery. Select your bust size from the correct cup size row, then choose your waist and hip measurements as usual.

Available Formats

Delivered Paper Pattern

If you opt for the printed paper pattern we'll print it on our in-house large format A0 printer and post it to your address.

Please note that we don't print the instructions. These will be emailed to you as a PDF, along with the digital pattern files in all sizes, when we dispatch your paper pattern.

Occasionally some large pattern pieces may be split across two A0 sheets and will need to be joined together.

PDF Digital Download

If you choose the PDF digital download option, a link to download your pattern files will be included in your order confirmation email. We recommend creating an account before placing your order so you can easily access your files again by logging in at any time. The following files are included to print at home:

  • PDF for A4/Letter printout. The full pattern spans 53 pages (sizes 00–20) or 71 pages (sizes 16–40), though you'll only need to print the pieces for your size, so the final page count may be less.
  • PDF for A0/US printout. The full pattern spans 4 pages (sizes 00–20) or 6 pages (sizes 16–40), though you'll only need to print the pieces for your size, so the final page count may be less.
  • Step by step sewing instructions in PDF format
